Corvus – New Cat in Town

corvus - new cat in town

A couple days ago, I picked up a mesh photo studio from Abranimations. Usually, my pictures are created on the fly, without a static studio setup. But since it was free (it no longer is), I thought I’d gave this a try and here’s the result. Now, I don’t do item reviews or anything, but the studio is sure fun to play around with!

The picture also shows, Corv can pull off colourful outfits just as well as his usual monochromatic looks.

At Home – Mirror House

Mirror House - 1. Outside

Today’s post will be in a slightly different format than usual. First of all, it’s not about one of my characters and their adventures, but about a place. Secondly, this place was not built / put together just for the purpose of a blogpost.
Follow me to Mirror Lake. As it lies hidden in a secluded little area, surrounded by small mountains, it is not easy to find Mirror House. The humble residence of the Szpiegel family was built by Corv’s great-grandfather Erich. Recently the Kitteh inherited it from his great-aunt.

When he moved in, Corvus left most of the things as they were. He never really knew any of his family and being surrounded by their belongings makes him feel closer to them. He did, however, add a few touches of his own here and there.

mirror house - living

Most of the time, the Kitteh and his friends hang out by the fire, with the old-fashioned, but cosy kitchen right behind them. The furniture may be a little old and faded, but everything is still in good working order.

mirror house - sleeping

The bedroom area has probably seen the most changes. Great-aunt’s frilly and moth-eaten bed wasn’t quite Corv’s taste and he replaced it with something that doesn’t smell of dust and moth balls, and doesn’t have springs that poke your fur when you seriously try to catnap.

I hope you enjoyed the little tour around the house – it is a private place and normally only open to select guests.
There are too many items in the pictures to list individually, so I am going to provide a list of shopws where items are from, and landmarks if possible. I hope I don’t forget anyone… if you see something I missed, please let me know!

Heroes – Corvus – The Barbarian

heroes - corvus - the barbarian

The second part of the heroes series. Corv’s character of choice would be the barbarian.

Despite the fact, Corvus is all fluff and purrs, one should not forget he is a tiger, not a housecat. Unlike his feral conspecifics, however, he has a choice between following his instincts or acting reasonable. And usually, he chooses to be a friendly kitteh.

But in roleplay, even he cannot resist the urge to follow his dark, wild instincts. This is why the barbarian would be the perfect class for him.

Corvus – Peeking under the Kitteh’s kilt

corvus - kilt outfit

Ok, now that I got your attention… in my first post about Corvus, I forgot to include a full body picture and I didn’t say anything about his outfit.
This is currently my favourite outfit for Corvus for several reasons. First of all, it is rather unique. You don’t see many guys wearing kilts in SL, and if they do, those are either traditional, or gorean kilts. The comfy, gothy style suits Corv very well, in my opinion. And, after removing all customisation scripts, it’s very performance-friendly, too.

Corv’s outfit:

top: Sey
kilt: Flow
boots: Gos
necklace: Kosh
socks: Sey
pose: Posebility

Allow me to introduce… Corvus Szpiegel

corvus szpiegel

Name: Corvus Szpiegel (aka "the Kitteh")
Age: unknown (mid to late 20s)
Born: New York City, USA
Occupation: self-employed

As you can see, Corvus is a neko – a white tiger, to be precise. His whole body is covered in thick, soft fur, mostly white and light grey, with darker grey to almost black stripes. He has fluffy ears and a long tail, but his most prominent feature are his ice-blue eyes. Corv sports a small goatee-style beard. His hair is black, with a distinct blue in it, except for his white fringe.

The Kitteh usually is quite friendly, maybe a bit shy at first. Just don’t get the idea of touching or even pulling his tail! He may appear a bit clumsy and confused, but don’t take him for stupid! He may lack higher education, but is usually quite fast to grasp new concepts, if brought to him in a way he can understand.

Corvus spent most of his teens on the streets, after escaping from his abusive mother, but recently inherited property from a great-aunt he barely remembered. Now he lives in Mirror House, a cottage built by his German great-grandfather Erich Szpiegel. Corvus runs a small store called [hate this]. He sells mostly t-shirts, with the help of his assistant HT.

OOC information:

Corvus was the first character I created in SecondLife, on the account with the same username – yes, back then we had last names! When I first joined SL, I wanted to become a vampire, but changed my mind after being constantly griefed by vampire players during my first days on the grid. I was looking for a dark sounding name and didn’t want to use any of my previous nicknames for different reasons. I didn’t know you could reload the selection of last names. While Szpiegel may not be the most attractive of names in hindsight, it is fairly unique and grew on me. I have yet to meet another Szpiegel inworld.

The name Corvus could be translated to “mirror raven”. Corvus is the Latin word for raven and Szpiegel is very similar to the German word Spiegel, which means mirror.

Corv’s basic look:

shape: my own
skin: Nomine
hair: Sadistic Hacker
eyes: By Snow / Fairlight Industries (glow effect)
beard: Emortal Concepts (tattoo) / Atro Patena (attachment)
make-up: Delirium Style
ears: OTCR
tail: Lemon Tea (formerly How Vexing, not seen in pic)
nails: Love Soul (not seen in pic)
pose: Madesigns

Yet another SL blog…

Hiya!

Here we are, on this brand-new blog. Certain people… kindly talked me into opening it, you go and blame them! Just kidding, of course! To be honest, I had been thinking about creating a blog for quite some time, but couldn’t be bothered to even come up with a name. Now that we are here… what to do with all the empty space?

First of all, what’s with the name? I will admit, it was really hard to come up with a name that wasn’t already taken. Withershins means counterclockwise, and implies to me something being off and against the tide. The SL at the end, of course, stands for SecondLife, an online community, which I am a member of for almost five years now.

Who is behind this blog? Simply put, Corvus Szpiegel – my SecondLife avatar. This is not a blog about my real life. Within my time in SL, I have created different characters and I hope to introduce them to you on this blog, one by one.

What is this blog about? Mostly SL photography. If I feel like it, I might also write about my different characters and/or adventures in SL. Usually, I create my pictures on the spur of the moment, when a certain idea hits me. I cannot work without inspiration, which is why I absolutely don’t take clients.

Last but not least, I created this blog for fun and will update it whenever I feel like it.

That being said, I remain yours truly,

Corvus Szpiegel
